serve the meal at the Wesley Center

The Plan:

The Marks Brothers are planning to make and serve the meal at the Wesley Center this Wed, Sept. 21. Timing is gathering at St. Marks early enough to arrive at the Wesley center by 6:00 pm.. At that time we will setup for the dinner, then attend the warship service. After the service we will join the students in eating the dinner, with a chance to interact with the students. I hope to have at least three Marks Brothers present. Dave McGiffin and myself are committed to be there. I suggest we contribute to the meal as we normally would and contribute the money to the Wesley Center.

Menu: Pork Chops or roast, cooked in mushroom soup, with stuffing for 40 people. Bread, salad, milk, vegetable, dessert.. We should be prepared to swerve on paper plates since the dishwasher may be inoperative. All food to be prepared in advance,

Please email of your interest now or in future Wednesdays. I feel this ministry could help us recover from the cancellation of this fall’s dinner and help us to reevaluate our mission.

Westly Center Dinner Schedule

One project suggested was serving dinner at the Wesley Methodist center at the U of A on Wed nights. Since little interest was shown on such short notice, please email me if you have a interest and we can organize a small group to do this without waiting for the full group. Rachel (Farnsworth) Mosher is involved and I can coordinate our efforts though her.

The Dinners are on Wednesday nights at 6:30 PM. I would like to setup a list for each meal night and see if we can get three people to do the dinner. We will show up there with food at about six, serve dinner, and eat with the students, then cleanup. When we get a commitment, I will verify with DeeDee that we can do it. You can each add a comment to that post, or email me.

Minutes of the Marks Brothers, Sept 8, 2005

Dinner was ordered by a call to have pizza delivered. In addition, Jim Jackson provided the Cake and drinks.

We were given a presentation by Harry Rody, Chaplin of: USS Arizona Reunion Assocation, Inc.. He started with a presentation of the case concerning the commanding officers at Perl Harbor: Kimmel and Short. The group was presented with a form letter intended to be sent to the President of the United States. Business Meeting:

Old Business: the date of the upcoming Mark’s Brothers Roundup Dinner was said to be Oct 8. After the discussion menu and ticket sales, a motion was made by John Stuhlmuller to the effect that the dinner should be cancelled. The motion was seconded by Dave Johnston. In discussion we were asked to consider this years experience and the money lost and the chances of a more positive result this time. In a show of hands, the motion passed, the dinner is cancelled.

The vote seems to have created tension in the group, with a questioning of the groups purpose. Our two guests : Harry Rody and Jeffery Salfin expressed embarrassment at participating in a major decision. We invite all interested parties to participate in helping us to recover from this change in direction by commenting on the role a men’s group can have at St. Marks and what we could do to both grow and to fulfill that goal. Pleas email me at farnswd@comcast.net. I will post the comments on the web site. Everyone can visit the site and discuss any comments received.

The web site provides a means to open the discussion to any interested party that could be served or cold serve in such a group. Alternatively email me or any member of the group with comments or suggestions.

One suggestion I have is to tighten up our communications via email and the web site to provide an agenda prior to the meeting and to send out the agenda with a meeting notice. This will remind the membership of the meeting and motivate them to come. One complaint I heard was the short notice, and the resulting lack of ability to deal with conflicting commitments. Please email me with addenda items and provide me with information concerning guests and programs. I will post this and provide them to the St. Marks office prior to the meeting. My email addresses: davef@tucsonembedded.com; dave.farnsworth@honeywell.com and davef@comcast.net .Comments from all officers would also be appropriate.

Next meeting: Oct. 13, 2005, 6:30pm. David Johnson to provide the meal, and Jim Jackson the signature cake and soda.
