I (David Farnsworth) had a senior moment during our last meeting concerning a visit to TMM, I forgot the groups name. The executive Director is Don Straungh. Alberta Farnsworth is a member of the TMM board. St Marks UMC has been a major supporter of TMM. The suggestion is that we meet at TMM for our monthly dinner and have TMM present a program describing what they do, and what we could do. I will be calling TMM soon to see what is available, and report to the next meeting.

MarksBrothers meeting minutes, Nov 10th,2005

After grace, offered by DeeDee Azhikakath , the meeting started with Dinner, of barbequed turkey provided by David Farnsworth, and cake provided by Jim Jackson.

During dinner DeeDee gave a talk which combined a description of her success at the Wesley Center and the ways which Marks Brothers could use her experience it build the group.

DeeDee provide a worksheet to aid us in identifying the areas we need to work on and discuss suggestions for the future of the group:

What is our Primary Mission

Who is our group for

What is the target audience within the group

How are you going to implement it?

Communication is key. Each idea needs to be transmitted three times to be effective. And in three different ways. DeeDee went to each church with students going to the U of A, and hand wrote letters to them. Her goal was to double her attendance from 5 to10 of 15. Her first meeting had forty. 1st contact has to be a month before the event to allow time for follow up to provide the additional two contacts. Personal contact is very effective

DeeDee mentioned “ROPES” which stands for Research-, Objective, the event??, and Evaluation.

She used the analogy of a fire with coals to suggest that we focus on a few activities rather than spread ourselves too thin. If you spread the coals, the fire goes out. She mentioned has had fewer activities with larger attendance to each event.

Continuing the coals analogy, DeeDee mentioned that while for the first time she has Christmas off, she will need to be working to prepare for the spring event during that time to get the “coals” built up.

Treasures Report: not available, Bill to email when available

Old Business

Agua Prieta- Jim Jackson reports a video is in work for the Church there.

Primaveria- no action, the calendar is full. No discussion of last month’s suggestion of starting another schedule.

. $178 dollars made from car wash. Car was post event review: successful, consider making annual at the time of the pumpkin sales.

the roofing project: It was suggested I not mention the name of the home owner involved for privacy considerations. Dave McGiffin suggested someone (not himself) research what was needed. It was agreed to meet Sat. at 8:00 am to take a small group to estimate the effort. Dave McGiffing was to contact the owner to get approval for the visit and call. (Post meeting activity: Dave didn’t call, the Sat meeting was cancelled).

A speaker was suggested for after the new year, Al Kent, of the Nomads). Will call to confirm (I failed to record who is calling).

.

New Business

pancake breakfasts- Mars Men were contacted and they would be happy for us to take over the pancake breakfasts. Bob Brobec is the contact for technical information. Tentative date is Easter in conjunction with the Youth group.

Bob Ross reports that he has offered our services to do plantings around “our” bridge. He will let us know when our support is required. This was approved by the lack of any objections.

Feb 9th meeting. It was suggested we meet again at the Metro Grill and invite wives. The was some discussion of the arrangement for unmarried members (deleted per direction from Bob Ross).

At the Conclusion, I asked DeeDee what (after we did the “ROPES” exercise) if we found we wanted to help with Wesley Center, how could we help? Her suggestions: Study packets, Final Bags (food), help raise money, Do a dinner with them, do a package breakfast with them.
